Experimental and numerical study of radial velocity profiles in chemical stirred tanks

Stirred tanks are widely used in various industrial processes for mixing, and reactions understanding the flow behavior optimizing impeller design is crucial improving mixing efficiency product quality. This paper investigates radial velocity profiles near tip a baffled stirred tank using experimental measurements computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. A cylindrical with four baffles was types—anchor, counterflow, sawtooth, Rushton turbine. The simulations utilized k-omega turbulence model Reynolds stress momentum source term to impeller. results indicate that both models predict maximum velocities accurately compared experiments capturing edge. Double turbine impellers generate localized around blade tip, while pitched turbines down-pumping produce high-intensity zones throughout tank. CFD vector plots provide further insight into discharge flows circulation patterns. proposed approach aligned closely data performed better than multiple reference frame methods.
